Sociologist (ISCTE – IUL) and PhD in Environmental Sciences (University of Aveiro). She is Assistant Professor at the Department of Social, Political and Territorial Sciences, University of Aveiro, Portugal. She is a full researcher at GOVCOPP (Research Unit on Governance, Competitiveness and Public Policies) of the University of Aveiro and associated researcher at CETRAD (Center of Transdisciplinary Studies for Development) of the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro. Between 2010 and 2011 she was (between 2010 and 2011) associated researcher at IBIMET – National Research Council, Italy, in the group ‘Rural Development and Cultural Identity’. Her main research interests are related to: Rural Sociology and Rural Studies, Environmental Sociology, Risk Studies.
Between 2010 and 2012 she was part of the Group of Experts at the Portuguese Ministry of Agriculture, Sea, Environment and Territorial Planning, for supporting the discussion and negotiations of the Common Agricultural Policy beyond 2013. Since 2012 she is the President of the Portuguese Society for Rural Studies (SPER) and since 2010 the Co-Coordinator of the Environment & Society Section of the Portuguese Association of Sociology. She is also member of the Research Study Group – Southern and Mediterranean Europe: Social Change, Challenges and Opportunities of the European Society for Rural Sociology and the Executive Board of the European Society for Rural Sociology (ESRS).
She has been involved in several national and EU funded research projects and is the (co)author of 4 books and 22 articles in Portuguese and international journals. She is also on the editorial board of several international journals, mainly related to rural studies.
